Developing a Positive Mindset
As artists and illustrators, having a positive mindset is like having a superpower. Between procrastination, imposter syndrome and comparing our art to others, there’s a lot we need to deal with in order to move forward.
If you have a positive mindset, you’ll look at everything that comes your way as opportunities instead of obstacles. Let’s develop this a little more.
First, it's okay to make mistakes. Remember, even famous artists didn't get everything perfect the first time. So, if your drawing doesn't turn out exactly as you hoped, don't worry. Mistakes can be a great way to learn and improve.
Next, believe in yourself. You're unique, and your art is special because it's from your heart. Sometimes, it might feel tough, but keep practicing and you'll get better and better. Don't compare yourself to others too much. Everyone's on their own creative journey.
Stay curious! Explore new things and try different styles. It's like trying new ice cream flavors – you might discover something you love! And don't forget to have fun. Art is about expressing yourself and enjoying the process.
Lastly, be patient with yourself. Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither are masterpieces. Keep your chin up, keep drawing, and keep smiling. A positive mindset is like the sunshine for your creativity. So, keep it sunny and keep creating.
For a little extra help, here is a list of positive affirmations. You can write them down on post-it notes and hang them around the house or if you have a vision board, you can add your favourite. It’s also good practice if you read them before you start to create.
I am exactly where I’m meant to be on my artistic journey.
With my art, I create beauty and magic.
I am always developing as an artist.
I am worthy of being an artist.
I compare myself only to who I was yesterday, and acknowledge my personal growth.
Every day I’m more confident in myself.
I am unique.
I believe in myself. I know I always achieve great things.
I create with love.
I love my art.
Let me know how you get on!
